Mrs. Madison provides the following services:
- Short term individual counseling about school or home, conflict resolution, friendship, grief, emotions, academic and behavioral progress, etc.
- Group counseling is offered throughout the school year. Groups vary and include topics as changing families, divorce, social skills, friendship, emotion regulation, welcoming new students, etc..
- Lunch bunches are held to assist students in solving problems or making friends. Students invite friends to join them for a supervised lunch in the counselor's office to problem solve or meet new students.
- Classroom guidance is offered to classroom teachers monthly. Topics include: bullying prevention, emotional awareness, I-Messages/conflict resolution, career development, friendship skills, respect, tolerance, goal setting, telling vs. tattling, personal safety, etc.
- Family support through consultation and education. The counselor can assist with mental health referrals and services, understanding your child's education and development, tutoring referrals, community resources, etc.
- Mrs. Madison serves on various school wide committees such as I&RS/RTI, HIB School Safety Team, and serves as the 504 Coordinator
- Anti-bullying Specialist for School #1 and School #2
- Facilitates community outreach by participating in community and school functions and coordinating events that support the Southampton community.
How to make a Guidance Referral
1. Students in first and second grade can self refer by completing a student referral outside of Mrs. Madison's office and slipping it under her door. All students, including Kindergarten students, can ask their teacher to see Mrs. Madison.
2. Teachers and staff can make referrals by sending the student to the guidance office with a guidance pass, emailing Mrs. Madison, or speaking to her in person.
3. Parents can call or email Mrs. Madison about making a referral for their child(ren). She will respond within 24 hours to discuss your questions or concerns.
